Marcia Ball – Grammy Nominee

1 Dec

Marcia Ball is a blues legend – especially here in her home town of Austin. Last night the tall and talented Ms. Ball was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Blues Album category for her latest work, Roadside Attraction. This release marks her 15th album and the first in which Marcia wrote every song. So here’s to you, Marcia!  And here’s a song from that very album which in which Austin is the co-star.

It’s Me, Margaret.

Austin icon Margaret Moser gave MEOW Day at Momo’s a fabulous shout-out and review in this week’s Chronicle. Margaret wrote about the panel she moderated (Do Music and Motherhood Mix) and particularly the wit and wisdom of panelist Shelley King.

Ladies of MEOW Day – Patrice Pike

11 Nov

One of Austin’s most influential artists is Patrice Pike. First as a member of Sister Seven, then appearing on the first reality show for rock singers, “Rock Star: Supernova,” she is one of the Capitol City’s treasures. Here’s a lovely performance of her song, “The Calling.” Enjoy!!

MEOW Day is tomorrow!  Have you got your tickets yet?  Maybe this video from panelist Elizabeth McQueen (Do Music and Motherhood Mix?) will light a fire under you. Not only is Elizabeth a well-known fixture in Austin as a member of Asleep at the Wheel, but she’s also an accomplished artist in her own right. This clever video was shot in just one take.  See you tomorrow at MEOW Day.

She will also be speaking on the “Do Music and Motherhood Mix” panel Saturday afternoon at MEOW Day. I’m looking forward to hearing how she juggles both sides of her extremely busy life.

Ladies of MEOW Day – Betty X

8 Nov

Austin is not a place you would necessarily think of as a town with a strong industrial metal scene. But iconic hardcore artist Betty X adds some welcome volume and darkness to this otherwise laid-back city. She’s mad as hell and she’s not gonna take it any more. You won’t want to miss her insight on the MEOW Day panel: “Crossing the Line: When Fans Get Too Close” on November 12th.

Get your tickets – just $10 in advance!
